MBCA General Meeting March 3, 2009
Members present Mike Frye, Renee Layshock, Rick Marsalek, Bill Stark, Gerry Ridgeway, Augie Pasquale, Mark Sheid, Paul Tonello, and Don Wood,
The meeting started promptly at 8:00 p.m. Mike Frye briefly stated the agenda.
New Business
Mike Frye made a motion to accept December minutes (they are available on line). Renee Layshock and Gerry Ridgeway second the motion and no one opposed.
Mike suggested(a good idea from the Paylors) putting a real-estate type plastic box at beginning of neighborhood and by clubhouse so neighbors who don’t have internet access can get a paper copy of newsletters, etc.
Mike reviewed the draft newsletter.
Maryland Monogram is now doing the keys for the boat ramp. Locks will be changed in April. Cost is less then UPS store that was doing it.
Mike mentioned that there had been several break ins, one on Dividing and McCann.
Augie Pasquale Beach Update
The Grant Application to Chesapeake Bay Trust was submitted. We should know in a week or two. We are also applying for a Unity Gardens Grant for $1,000 for plant materials. It is due 3/15/09.
We have an Eagle Scout, Jeff Patrick, leading the Cypress Road beach improvement. Keith Underwood is the designer. We want to put in a picnic table, sitting bench, bike rack and canoe/kayak/dingy rack. We needs 2 days of back hoe work. We will need 35-40K for this project. Augie will lead the Oak Grove beach improvement. Brian Oates asked if there was any way to get Ulmstead to donate any time or materials. Augie would check.
Boat Ramp beach improvement- Discussing extending the pier 30-40 ft out parallel to Magothy Mariana. We would have a platform-sitting area at end. We would need sand to extend the beach out about 10 feet with out having a variance required. Under the pier and extending perpendicular from the shore from the jetty at the north end of the beach we would put riprap to keep sand in.
Augie will get a sign up sheet for beach maintenance volunteers.
Watershed Conference – Mike Frye attended. Storm sewer runoff was discussed. Also an interesting piece of information was that 65% of bacteria in river is from animal waste. Planting trees goes a long way to help the Magothy River. Mandrin is planning on landscaping after housing is built. We should plant trees along the entranceway. Mandarin paid $4,500 for 5th house sold.
Copies of the financials as of 02/21/09 were available at the meeting and are posted on line. PDF files under financials menu have a zip file with 6 statements.
Questions/Comments
Mark S asked if a one page Treasures Report could be made available for meetings?
We need to shop prices on insurance.
BGE can replace the thermostat with a timed one. Mark said we could set the primary thermostat at 50 degrees in a cage and has the second thermostat with a timer for an hour, then could crank timer again. Mark will put the timer on. Cost would be about $50.
Old Business
Bylaw change – still needs to be addressed, Mike and Kathy will work to come up with some language that could be put to a vote.
Rick discussed a need for a new sign at front of neighborhood. Mike and Joel will be taking the lead on the Encroachment issue. They will walk around and photograph problem areas.
At 9:12p.m. A motion was made by Renee Layshock to adjourn and Gerry Ridgeway seconded.
